2019 AIAHR Scholarship

MEMORANDUM

To: High School Guidance Counselors within the Geographic Boundaries of the Hampton Roads Region of Virginia

The AIA Hampton Roads Chapter has established a scholarship of $1,500 for a high school senior who has been accepted into an institute of higher learning pursuing a degree in architecture, planning, or historic preservation. The award payment will be disbursed in August 2019.

Candidates must have a cumulative 3.0 Grade Point Average (GPA) or higher and possess one of the following:
1. A letter of enrollment from their high school guidance counselor verifying that he/she has been accepted in an institution of higher learning and will enroll in the upcoming fall classes.
2. An official “Letter of Acceptance” from the institute’s Registrar.
3. A copy of a college admission letter for upcoming Fall enrollment.

We are asking for applicants to submit a 400-500 word essay detailing how a building or place in Hampton Roads has helped to inspire their choice to pursue a career in architecture, planning, or historic preservation. All essays shall be typed and submitted in PDF format as an email attachment. Please email submission to This email address is being protected from spambots. Submissions are due by 11:59 EST on Monday, April 1, 2019.
