WE ARE HIRING!
Urban Designer / Landscape Architect
Work Program Architects - Norfolk, Virginia
We're looking for a new addition to the WPA team! You will be working with a fun and interdisciplinary group of architects, urban designers, graphic, and industrial designers in an open and collaborative environment. We are an active part of our community and we focus the majority of our efforts on enhancing and growing Norfolk, Virginia Beach, Hampton and the Hampton Roads/North Carolina coastal region. You will be seated at one big desk in an inspiring studio amongst friends and colleagues where you will get to know us quickly!
Your role is going to be an exciting one, as WPA has an incredible portfolio of regional urban design work. While we are a local firm, we are fortunate to be working on national-level, high-profile urban design projects such as the redesign of the St. Paul's Area (the country's largest public housing project turned mixed income/mixed use redevelopment), sea level rise and coastal resilience projects, the Chrysler Museum Master Plan, the Hermitage Museum Master Plan, the Downtown Norfolk Plan 2030, a pattern book for a new 3,000 acre mixed-use development, and a pattern book for all future mixed-income developments in the City of Norfolk. You will be working with our in-house urban design team, Ray Gindroz (who works out of the WPA Studio and leads many of our urban design efforts), and our amazing team of consultants who are experts in sustainable landscape design, civil engineering, geotechnical engineering, and hydrology. You will be able to see your City change around you in just a few years as we work through projects that affect our families and our neighbors. We expect you to come to the table with a love of actively participating in an urban environment, walking and biking, and living in our changing City. You should be passionate about improving the lives of all citizens in a community. You should also be comfortable with and have fun listening, presenting, and sketching out ideas in front of a crowd.
