In 2018 alone, AIA Hampton Roads local YAF chapter creatively and rigorously restructured, relaunched and transformed itself through rebranding and reprogramming.

Along with the monthly YAF socials, the group has created entirely new and program-type firsts for the chapter, and our state.

YAF Talks is a platform curated by and provided for emerging professionals within the architecture and design community of Hampton Roads to share their individual ideas, work, research, interests. Their inaugural YAF Talks began in September 2018, with a local emerging professional as the featured presenter. The event brought together local collegiate architecture students from Hampton University and Virginia Tech, emerging and experienced architecture professionals, as well as allied professionals.

[yaf]CON is a micro convergence curated by and provided for emerging professionals in the state of Virginia, simple to: gather your local YAF chapter, travel together to a central host city and connect with your state’s emerging professionals for a day. The micro conference brought together close to 50 emerging and experienced professionals from all over Virginia, as well as students and faculty from Hampton University, with an emerging professional as a keynote speaker recently named “4o under 40” by a Virginia publication. This micro conference was made possible with the funds our YAF cohort received from their 2018 AIA College of Fellows Component Grant award. AIA Virginia and Architecture Exchange East are very enthused about integrating [yaf]CON into the parent conference for the years to come.
