This program introduces audiences to the many benefits provided by vegetated roofs and blue roofs. The course will review how both vegetated and blue roofs can be incorporated into stormwater Best Management Practices (BMPs) on projects along with the technical advantages of employing either individually or combined.

In addition, recent technological developments will be shown on how to implement blue roofs as a cost savings opportunity on a project. The course also covers typical components, design considerations and installation methods.

Presented By: Dick Hayden with American Hydrotech (AHI) accompanied by Michael Shafer, Styro Systems – Claddings and Matt Carr, American Hydrotech

Richard has been at the center of the development of a series of Hydrotech Blue Roof assemblies where stormwater can be detained on rooftops to aid in a project’s stormwater management plan. These assemblies can include standard stone ballasted blue roofs, paver blue roofs as well as a Garden Roof Blue Roof assembly where a vegetated roof can be constructed over a 6-inch deep blue roof assembly. This multi-tasking assembly combines the aspects of holding onto the stormwater required by the municipal code while creating greenspace and usable pedestrian spaces over the same space. This can be a money saving stormwater handling system especially in dense, urban environments.
